The WINNER in the Battle of the Sexes decides which home to BUY!
Recently, I was working with some Buyers to purchase a new home. The couple was having a conversation with me about who was really going to be making the ultimate decision about which home to purchase. As conventional wisdom dictates and we so often make fun about, I knew there was really not going to be any contest it would be the wife! Or would it?
They were clearly making fun of the whole experience and letting me and each other know who they thought was in control and who would have the final say as the "battle"raged on!
The funny part about this story is that I was realizing as they spoke about this that something was happening that I am not sure either one realized. Each time they would talk about a home, the spaces or room layouts or configuration, almost everything they commented on had to do with what the benefit or convenience factor would be for their children!
As the discussion continued, it was becoming VERY CLEAR who was going to decide which home to buy and it WASN'T going to be either one of them! The KIDS were going to DECIDE! (Well, at least mom and dad's interpretation of what the kids wanted anyway.)
So I began to think about this more … and thought about my own situation and probably anyone else's out there who has children.
Who decides REALLY Decides?
What will we have for dinner?
What restaurants will we choose?
What movie will we see?
What are the events we will go to?
Where will we shop for clothes?
What sneakers will they wear?
What cereal are we going to eat?
What type of pets do we have?
What schools do the children go to? Do they like it?
Is the home in the right school district?
What sports will we play?
What activities will we be interested in?
Is there a Park nearby?
The list goes on and on….
When it comes to home buying WHO really decides? Chances are, if you are like myself of most of the families I work with that have children, the decision will come down to the wants and needs of the children!
So, It is NOT mom or dad at all that will do the choosing, it is the KIDS! For me and many of my best clients with children of their own … we would not have it any other way! :-)
