Summer in Central Texas is synonymous with sunshine, good times, and, let's be honest, serious heat! Our real estate agents know that finding ways to cool off is essential for enjoying all that Austin, Round Rock, Cedar Park, Georgetown, Leander, Pflugerville, Hutto, and our other fantastic surrounding cities have to offer. Lucky for us, Central Texas is home to some of the best swimming holes, splash pads, lakes, and community pools around.

Dive into our guide to summer water fun and discover your next favorite cool-down spot!

Natural Swimming Holes Worth the Drive

Nothing quite says "Texas summer" like a refreshing dip in a spring-fed swimming hole. These natural oases offer a unique and often picturesque escape from the heat.

Blue Hole – Georgetown
Tucked away along the South San Gabriel River, this scenic lagoon is a local favorite. It's shaded, refreshing, and just a short stroll from Georgetown's charming downtown square. Pack a picnic and make a day of it!

Barton Springs Pool – Austin
This iconic spring-fed pool stays a crisp 68–70°F year-round, making it the perfect escape from a triple-digit day. Located in Zilker Park, it's a must-visit summer destination—and a classic "only in Austin" experience.

Hamilton Pool Preserve – Dripping Springs
For a more adventurous outing, head just outside of Austin to this stunning natural grotto. Reservations are required, but the views (and that cool, emerald water) are well worth the effort.

Krause Springs - Spicewood
This privately owned oasis boasts 32 natural springs, a man-made pool, and a natural swimming area with a waterfall. It's a fantastic spot for a day trip or even camping.

Lake Life is the Best Life

Our Central Texas lakes, particularly Lake Travis and Lake Austin, are hubs of activity, offering endless opportunities for fun on the water.

Lake Travis – North Shore Access
With marinas and boat rentals in Point Venture, Lago Vista, and Jonestown, Lake Travis offers everything from jet skiing to sunset cruises. And if you've never floated in Devil's Cove on a summer weekend—you're in for a quintessential Texas lake day.

Lake Austin
Known for its clear blue waters and lush greenery, Lake Austin is perfect for leisurely boat rides, paddleboarding, and kayaking. Emma Long Metropolitan Park provides shallow beach entry, ideal for families with younger children.

Lake Georgetown – Georgetown
More low-key than Travis, Lake Georgetown is great for kayaking, paddleboarding, or hiking the lakeside trails. It's also a peaceful fishing spot if you're looking to unwind.

Lake Pflugerville - Pflugerville
This 180-acre reservoir offers a pleasant beach area for swimming and also allows for kayaking and paddleboarding.

Splash Pads for the Littles

For families with little ones or those seeking a more structured aquatic experience, Central Texas has an abundance of fantastic splash pads and community pools.

Brushy Creek Lake Park – Cedar Park
This family-friendly park has it all—trails, a playground, fishing spots, and a splash pad that's perfect for kids of all ages. Bring your bikes and make it an all-day outdoor adventure.

Quarry Splash Pad - Williamson County Regional Park, Leander
This popular splash pad at Southwest Williamson County Regional Park is a fantastic way to cool down with plenty of interactive water features.

Community Pools That Make a Splash

Veterans Memorial Pool – Cedar Park
This public pool has slides, fountains, and shaded areas—making it feel more like a mini waterpark than a regular pool. Great for all ages.

Pflugerville Pool & Splash Pad – Pflugerville
Pflugerville keeps the summer vibes strong with its local aquatic centers. The Scott Mentzer Pool is clean, affordable, and has diving boards and a splash pad for little ones.

Micki Krebsbach Pool - Round Rock
Another great option in Round Rock, Micki Krebsbach Pool boasts interactive features like a pirate ship and large slides, alongside traditional swim lanes.

Our real estate agents don't just help clients buy and sell homes, they help them fall in love with the lifestyle that comes with living here. Central Texas summers are long, sunny, and yes, hot—but with so many ways to stay cool and connected to the outdoors, there's always something fun to do.
